In 2009, the United States Mint honored the island territory of Guam with a special twenty-five cent release. Struck at the Philadelphia facility, this coin remains in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its unique, culturally rich reverse design. The coin is composed of a copper core bonded to an outer layer of nickel, resulting in a metal mixture of 91.67 percent copper and 8.33 percent nickel. The reverse side displays a striking arrangement of local symbols. An outline of the island of Guam provides the backdrop for a traditional proa, a swift sailing vessel used by the indigenous Chamorro people. Alongside the boat stands a latte stone, a monumental stone pillar that served as a foundation for ancient dwellings. The inscription 'Guahan I Tano ManChamorro' honors the land of the Chamorro people. The year of issue, 2009, and the traditional motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' are also clearly visible on this face. On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington faces left. This side bears the classic inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', 'LIBERTY', 'IN GOD WE TRUST', and 'QUARTER DOLLAR'. The small 'P' mint mark is struck on the right side, indicating its origin at the Philadelphia Mint.
