2009-W 1/2 oz Gold Anna Harrison BU (w/Box & COA)
2009-W 1/2 oz Gold Anna Harrison BU (w/Box & COA)
This half-ounce gold coin from 2009 honors Anna Harrison, a remarkable historical figure who holds the unique distinction of being the sole First Lady who never resided in the White House during her husband's presidency. Most of her life was spent in the frontier territories of Ohio and Indiana, where she managed business affairs and raised ten children on her own. Deeply committed to education, she taught her own children in the frontier wilderness and, alongside her husband, established the Jefferson Academy. Struck at the West Point Mint in New York from 0.9999 fine gold, the coin features a detailed portrait of Anna Harrison on its obverse. The front also bears the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, her name, the year 2009, and the West Point 'W' mint mark. The reverse design, created by Thomas Cleveland and sculpted by Charles Vickers, depicts Harrison sharing her love of learning with young students. Surrounding this scene are inscriptions reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the ten-dollar face value, and the weight and purity of the gold content.
