2009-W 1/2 oz Proof Gold Anna Harrison (w/Box & COA)
Struck at the West Point Mint in New York, this half-ounce gold coin honors Anna Harrison, a woman whose life was shaped by the American frontier. Though her husband became the ninth President of the United States, she never actually resided in the executive mansion during his brief term, which was cut short by his passing in 1841. Instead, much of her life unfolded in the rugged territories of Ohio and Indiana, where she dedicated herself to education. The obverse of this 0.9999 fine gold piece features a detailed portrait of Anna Harrison, accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 2009. The reverse design, created by Thomas Cleveland and sculpted by Charles Vickers, depicts Harrison in her element as an educator, sharing her love of learning with young students. This scene references her real-life commitment to schooling, which included co-founding the Jefferson Academy with her husband. With a limited mintage of just 6,250 pieces, this ten-dollar denomination proof coin is a remarkable tribute to a frontier educator. The reverse side also displays the United States of America name, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the coin's weight and purity specifications of 1/2 oz. and 0.9999 fine gold.
