Struck in one-half ounce of 24-karat gold, this modern proof coin honors Margaret Taylor, the wife of the twelfth United States president. Produced at the West Point Mint in New York, the coin is part of a dedicated series celebrating the nation's First Ladies. Its high purity of 0.9999 fine gold is fully backed by the United States government. The front of the coin presents a portrait of Margaret Taylor, created through the collaborative work of designer Phebe Hemphill and sculptor Charles Vickers. Surrounding her likeness are the inscriptions of her name, the year 2009, and the traditional mottos of liberty and trust. The West Point mintmark is also visible on this side.
