2011-P 9/11 National Medal Proof (Capsule Only)
Struck in 2011 to mark a decade of remembrance, this silver medal serves as a solemn tribute to the individuals who perished in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Authorized by legislation signed by President Obama in August 2010, the piece honors the enduring fortitude, sacrifice, and bravery of the victims and responders. The United States Mint produced these proof-finish medals at both the Philadelphia and West Point facilities, capping the total production limit across both locations at two million pieces. The obverse, created by designer Donna Weaver, features a poignant depiction of Lady Liberty cradling the Lamp of Remembrance. This side bears the inscriptions of hope, honor, and remembrance, alongside the dual dates spanning 2001 to 2011. On the reverse, Weaver depicts a powerful eagle positioned before a background of flowing, cascading water, symbolizing resilience and renewal. Minted in 90 percent silver with a weight of one troy ounce, the medal carries the "P" mint mark, indicating its origin from the Philadelphia Mint.
