2011-W 1/2 oz Gold Lucy Hayes BU (w/Box & COA)
Struck in one-half ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, this ten-dollar coin from the West Point Mint celebrates Lucy Hayes, wife of the nineteenth American president, Rutherford B. Hayes. The couple married in 1852, and during her husband's presidency from 1877 to 1881, she became widely known for her strong temperance beliefs, leading to a complete ban on alcohol inside the White House. The obverse side of the coin displays a detailed portrait of Lucy Hayes. It is inscribed with her name, the year 2011, and the traditional mottos of liberty and trust. The West Point mint mark is also visible on this face. The reverse design captures a joyful moment in history, depicting Lucy Hayes' involvement in organizing the first White House Easter Egg Roll. This side features the national inscriptions of the United States of America, the motto of unity, and the coin's face value, along with the guaranteed weight and purity of the gold content.
