The 2012 American Gold Eagle half-ounce coin stands as a remarkable example of modern United States coinage. Backed by the United States Mint, the coin offers a stunning combination of historic and contemporary artistry. On the obverse, the design draws inspiration from the celebrated work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, originally created for the Gold Double Eagle. It depicts Lady Liberty walking forward with confidence, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, set against a backdrop of radiating sunbeams. The year 2012 is clearly inscribed alongside this timeless figure. The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, presents a detailed scene of a bald eagle family. A male eagle is captured in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await. This side of the coin features the national mottos, E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with inscriptions denoting the country of origin, the gold content, and the twenty-five dollar face value.
