The 2012 American Silver Eagle represents the twenty-sixth year of the United States Mint's premier silver bullion initiative. Struck from one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, this coin carries a face value of one dollar, backed by the federal government. On the obverse, the design presents Lady Liberty in mid-stride, an iconic image modeled after the classic 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar created by Adolph A. Weinman. The figure is depicted moving toward the dawn, draped in the American flag. The legible inscriptions include the year 2012 and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, displays a powerful heraldic eagle that draws inspiration from the Great Seal of the United States. Clutched in the eagle's talons are an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing peace and strength. Above the eagle, thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular pattern to represent the original American colonies. The inscriptions on this side denote the weight and purity, reading 1 OZ.
