2012 Australia 1/10 oz Gold Lunar Dragon BU (Series II)
2012 Australia 1/10 oz Gold Lunar Dragon BU (Series II)
Struck by the Perth Mint, this 2012 issue highlights the rich symbolism of the Chinese zodiac. The coin is minted from one tenth of an ounce of highly refined 99.99 percent pure gold. Backed by the Australian government as official legal tender, it carries a face value of 15 Dollars and had a final declared mintage of 33,059 pieces. The reverse side displays a powerful representation of a classic Chinese dragon. This scaled, serpentine beast is shown with four legs alongside a symbolic pearl of wisdom. The design also incorporates the specific Chinese character representing the dragon, the English phrase "Year of the Dragon," and the distinctive "P" mint mark signifying its origin in Perth. On the obverse, the coin bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding this central effigy are inscriptions detailing the country of issue, the year 2012, the gold purity, the weight of the metal, and the denomination of 15 Dollars.
