This 2012 quarter dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, celebrates the vast wilderness of Alaska through the America the Beautiful series. The reverse design showcases a wild Dall sheep set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount McKinley, also known as Denali. Towering at 20,320 feet above sea level, this peak is the highest mountain on the North American continent. The depicted sanctuary was first established as a national site in 1917, and it later grew in 1980 to encompass more than six million acres of protected land. Surrounding the scenic reverse are the inscriptions "Denali," "Alaska," "E Pluribus Unum," and the 2012 year of issue. On the obverse, the coin presents the classic portrait of George Washington, a design created by John Flanagan. Alongside the bust of the first president, the inscriptions read "United States of America," "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and "Quarter Dollar." A small "D" mint mark is visible, indicating its production in Denver. This particular coin remains in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of both the historic portrait and the rugged Alaskan landscape.
