2012 Fiji 1 oz Silver $2 Taku BU
2012 Fiji 1 oz Silver $2 Taku BU
This striking silver coin from 2012 highlights the beauty of the Hawksbill turtle, locally known as the Taku. Struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, the coin captures a stylized depiction of this marine creature navigating the ocean waters, surrounded by tiny bubbles. These unique turtles inhabit the tropical waters of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, but they face severe survival threats and are currently classified as critically endangered. On the opposite side, the coin bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II alongside the 2012 issue date. Although issued under the authority of Fiji, the New Zealand Mint produced this legal tender release, which was limited to a maximum mintage of 350,000 pieces.
