2012 Mexico 1 kilo Silver Aztec Calendar (w/Box & COA)

32.1500 troy oz .999 2012 Brilliant Unc

Struck in a massive format, this 2012 silver coin from Mexico contains one full kilogram of 0.999 fine silver. Authorized by the Banco de México, this impressive piece carries a legal tender face value of 100 Pesos and was limited to a global release of only 500 pieces. The coin represents a continuation of a design concept first introduced on a one-kilogram silver canvas in 2007, celebrating the complex mathematical and spiritual heritage of ancient Mesoamerica. The reverse side showcases the legendary Aztec Calendar stone in meticulous detail. At the heart of this intricate design is the sun deity, Tonatiuh, who is depicted inside a central circle. Surrounding the central figure are four distinct panels that represent the previous cosmic eras of Aztec belief. This complex timekeeping system combined a solar cycle spanning 365 days, known as the xiuhpohualli, alongside a sacred ritual cycle of 260 days, called the tonalpohualli. The reverse also displays the denomination of $100, the year 2012, the classic "Mo" mint mark of the Mexico City Mint, and the inscription "1 kg Plata Pura Ley 0.999". On the obverse, a sculptural rendition of the Mexican National Shield dominates the center. An eagle perched on a cactus while grasping a serpent is encircled by the official state title, "Estados Unidos Mexicanos". Framing this central emblem is a circular arrangement showing the various historical coats of arms used by the nation throughout its past, offering a visual journey through Mexico's evolving identity.
