The 2012 Kennedy half dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, represents a modern continuation of one of America's most recognizable circulating coin designs. This particular issue is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, allowing the sharp details of its engraving to be appreciated just as they appeared when the coin first left the coining press. On the obverse, the profile of President John F. Kennedy faces left, a design created by Gilroy Roberts. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is positioned below the portrait. The reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, features a detailed heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolizing both peace and defense. The traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is displayed on a scroll above the eagle. Though these coins appear silver, they are actually composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper.
