Struck at the San Francisco Mint with a composition containing 0.17875 troy ounces of silver, this proof coin features a mirror-like finish that brings its detailed design to life. The reverse side depicts a native Puerto Rican parrot alongside a tiny Coqui tree frog, both nestled within the dense, textured foliage of the rainforest. This protected wilderness has a deep history, having been preserved by Spain's King Alfonso XII in 1876 before officially becoming the Luquillo Forest Reserve on January 17, 1903. The obverse displays the classic portrait of George Washington, originally created by sculptor John Flanagan.
