2013 1 oz Gold Buffalo BU
Introduced by the United States Mint in 2006, the American Buffalo series represents a significant milestone in modern American coinage. This 2013 edition is struck in one troy ounce of exceptionally pure 0.9999 fine gold. As a sovereign coin, its weight and purity are fully backed by the United States government, carrying a face value of 50 dollars. The obverse of the coin features a powerful profile of an American Indian, a celebrated design originally created by James Earle Fraser for the classic Buffalo Nickel. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right edge, accompanied by the year 2013 and the designer's initial F near the lower shoulder. On the reverse, a magnificent American buffalo stands in profile, modeled after a famous bison named Black Diamond. This side of the coin features the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The bottom edge displays the weight and purity specifications, reading 1 OZ. 0.9999 FINE GOLD, alongside the 50 dollar denomination.
