In 2013, Canada celebrated its natural heritage with a special twelve-part coin series titled "O Canada." Among these releases is a half-ounce silver coin dedicated to the orca whale, a magnificent marine mammal closely associated with the country's coastal waters. Struck in exceptionally pure 0.9999 fine silver, this ten-dollar denomination coin showcases the artistry of Canadian wildlife illustration through a dynamic and fluid composition. The reverse side, designed by artist Pierre Leduc, captures the energy of the ocean as a massive orca breaches the water's surface. Below this central scene, a stylized representation of an orca's tail fin adds a graphic element to the design. The inscriptions "CANADA", "2013", and "10 DOLLARS" are clearly struck on this side, framing the marine imagery. On the obverse, the coin bears the familiar effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, a portrait created by Susanna Blunt. As a sovereign issue, this proof-quality coin is fully backed by the Canadian government.
