2013-D ATB Quarter Perry's Victory & Peace Memorial BU
The 2013 Denver Mint quarter, part of the America the Beautiful series, highlights a significant moment in history and a towering monument of peace. The reverse of this coin features a representation of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry standing before the Peace Memorial. Located in Put in Bay, Ohio, this memorial was established in 1936 to honor Perry's historic triumph during the Battle of Lake Erie, a victory he achieved when he was just 27 years old. His leadership earned him a Congressional Gold Medal and the enduring title of "Hero of Lake Erie." The actual monument depicted on the coin is a massive Doric column rising 352 feet into the air. On the obverse, the coin displays the classic likeness of George Washington, a portrait created by John Flanagan. The inscriptions surrounding the first president include "United States of America," "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and "Quarter Dollar," along with the "D" mint mark representing the Denver facility. The reverse side carries the inscriptions "Perry's Victory," "Ohio," "E Pluribus Unum," and the year 2013.
