In 2013, the United States Mint continued its celebrated America the Beautiful series with a tribute to the rugged beauty of New Hampshire. This particular quarter dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, showcases a design that transports the viewer directly into the serene wilderness of the White Mountain National Forest. The reverse side of the coin presents a striking landscape featuring Mount Chocorua. The majestic peak is beautifully framed by the slender trunks and delicate branches of birch trees, capturing the essence of the northern woods. Inscriptions surrounding this scenic view include the name of the forest, the state of New Hampshire, the year 2013, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington takes center stage, a classic portrait originally created by John Flanagan and modified by William Cousins. Surrounding the first president's likeness are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR. A small letter D is placed on the obverse, indicating its origin at the Denver Minting facility.
