In 2013, the United States Mint celebrated the rugged, high-altitude landscape of Nevada's Great Basin National Park with a special quarter design. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this brilliant uncirculated coin showcases the striking contrast between the country's ancient natural wonders and its traditional presidential imagery. The reverse side of the coin features a detailed depiction of a bristlecone pine tree, a species renowned for its ability to survive for thousands of years in harsh, arid climates. Behind the twisted branches of the pine, the design reveals the rocky glacial moraines that define the park's dramatic topography. This side is inscribed with the words GREAT BASIN, NEVADA, the year 2013, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington greets the viewer, maintaining the classic look of the American quarter. Surrounding the first president's likeness are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. A small P mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the historic minting facility in Philadelphia.
