2013-S ATB Quarter Ft. McHenry National Monument/Shrine Proof
This 2013 quarter, struck at the San Francisco Mint, celebrates Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine as part of the America the Beautiful coin series. The coin is preserved in Gem Proof condition, highlighting the sharp details of its design and its mirror-like finish. The reverse of the coin depicts Fort McHenry during a Defenders Day celebration, recalling the historic September 1814 attack on Baltimore Harbor. This site later achieved national park status in 1925. Inscriptions on this side include the name of the fort, the state of Maryland, the year 2013, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, a classic portrait of George Washington originally created by John Flanagan is featured. Accompanying the profile are the familiar inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The San Francisco origin is marked by the letter S.
