In 2013, the United States Mint continued its celebrated America the Beautiful series with a tribute to the rugged beauty of New Hampshire. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this twenty-five cent piece showcases a proof finish that highlights the intricate details of its nature-inspired design. The reverse side of the coin presents a scenic view of Mount Chocorua, framed elegantly by the slender trunks and branches of native birch trees. This wilderness scene is accompanied by inscriptions designating the location as White Mountain, representing New Hampshire, along with the year of issue, 2013, and the traditional motto E Pluribus Unum. On the obverse, the familiar profile of George Washington is displayed, a portrait originally created by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins. Surrounding the first president's likeness are the essential inscriptions of United States of America, Liberty, In God We Trust, and Quarter Dollar. The small S mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the San Francisco facility.
