Struck at the West Point Mint in New York, the 2013 proof edition of the fifty-dollar gold piece showcases the high level of detail achievable through multiple press strikes. This particular issue, containing one troy ounce of gold at a purity of 0.9167, was limited to a worldwide production of 24,710 pieces. The reflective, mirror-like fields of the coin highlight the contrasting frosted elements of its classical imagery. The front of the coin presents a modified version of the famous early twentieth-century design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It depicts Lady Liberty walking forward, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, with the date 2013 inscribed alongside her. This side also bears the word LIBERTY, which is partially visible in the surrounding legend. On the reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, a family of eagles is depicted. A male eagle is shown in flight, carrying an olive branch above a nest that shelters a female eagle and her young. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the denomination and metal weight of 1OZ. FINE GOLD, 50 DOLLARS.
