In 2014, the Central Bank of Armenia issued this striking silver coin, marking the fourth annual release in a series dedicated to the biblical narrative of Noah's Ark. Struck from one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, the piece carries a legal tender face value of 500 Drams. A total of 566,323 of these brilliant uncirculated coins were minted for this specific year of issue. The obverse of the coin displays the official coat of arms for the Republic of Armenia. Surrounding this central emblem, the inscriptions clearly denote the face value of 500 DRAM, the year 2014, and the issuing nation. The silver purity and weight are also indicated on this side of the coin. On the reverse, artist Eduard Kurghinyan captures the climax of the deluge story. The design illustrates Noah's Ark floating upon the receding floodwaters in front of the twin peaks of Mount Ararat, the traditional resting place of the ark. In the foreground, a flying dove carries an olive branch, while a bright sun rises in the background, symbolizing a new beginning.
