In 2014, the United States Mint released a striking silver quarter celebrating the natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. It is preserved in pristine gem proof condition, displaying the sharp contrast and mirror-like finishes characteristic of the finest proof coinage. The reverse of the coin captures a serene wilderness scene, featuring a historic log cabin nestled deep within the forest. An eagle glides gracefully through the sky above, while the majestic peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains rise in the background. Inscriptions on this side include the name of the park, the state of Tennessee, the year 2014, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the coin displays the classic portrait of George Washington. Surrounding the central image are the familiar inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The S mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the San Francisco facility.
