In 2014, the United States Mint marked the fiftieth anniversary of one of its most famous coin designs with a special tribute struck in 0.75 troy ounces of 0.9999 fine gold. This commemorative release honors the legacy of John F. Kennedy, preserving the classic imagery that first appeared half a century prior. The front of the coin displays the familiar profile of John F. Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. It features the dual dates of 1964 to 2014, symbolizing the golden anniversary of the series. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is split across the portrait, just as it was on the original 1964 issue. On the reverse, Frank Gasparro's detailed rendering of the Great Seal of the United States takes center stage. An eagle clutches an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a ring of stars. To distinguish this gold edition, the metal's weight and purity are inscribed directly below the eagle on the reverse side.
