The front of the coin displays the classic left-facing profile of President John F. Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is split across the lower half of the portrait, anchoring the design above the commemorative dual dates. This iconic image has been preserved to capture the spirit of the original 1964 circulating coin. On the reverse, the design by Frank Gasparro showcases the Great Seal of the United States, featuring a heraldic eagle holding an olive branch and arrows.
