In 2015, the Perth Mint celebrated the Lunar Series II with an extraordinary gold coin struck in ultra high relief. This specialized minting technique gives the design an incredible dimensional depth, raising the details high above the mirror-like proof fields. Crafted from one troy ounce of 0.9999 pure gold, this legal tender release is backed by the Australian government and has an incredibly limited mintage of only 388 pieces. The reverse of the coin features an artistic rendering of a mature male goat standing atop a rocky mountain ridge. Designed by artist Natasha Muhl, the stylized peaks in the background frame the animal beautifully. This side also incorporates the traditional Chinese character representing the goat, the English inscription "Year of the Goat", and the classic "P" mint mark signifying the Perth Mint. On the obverse, the coin displays the official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions detailing the monarch's name, the issuing nation of Australia, the 2015 year of issue, the 100 Dollars denomination, and the weight and purity of the gold content.
