In 2015, Australia celebrated a major milestone in modern numismatics, marking a quarter-century since the debut of its beloved Kookaburra series. To honor this twenty-fifth anniversary, a special silver coin was minted in proof quality, featuring a design that looks back to the very beginning of the series in 1990. Crafted from one ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver, this coin is backed by the Australian government. The reverse of the coin displays a detailed scene featuring an adult kookaburra perched on a tree stump, framed by eucalyptus leaves and a delicate fern. This side also bears the inscriptions THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA and the dual dates of 1990 to 2015. To signify the importance of this milestone, the Perth Mint added a unique P25 mint mark to the design, which was originally created by Dr. Stuart Devlin. On the obverse, the coin displays the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
