In 2015, the Royal Canadian Mint released a striking silver coin celebrating a resilient symbol of the nation's heritage: the Canadian horse. The reverse of the coin captures a dynamic scene of a horse galloping across a grassy meadow, set against a backdrop of rolling farmland. This design honors a breed known in Quebec as "le petit cheval de fer," or the "little iron horse." Descended from draft, pacing, and trotting stock, these horses adapted to survive the harsh climates and rugged terrain of New France.
