This 2015 silver coin celebrates the vast, rugged beauty of Canada's coastal woodlands. As the second release in an eight-coin series dedicated to the diverse forests of Canada, this piece focuses on the Coast Shore Pine ecosystem. This massive ecological zone stretches all the way from British Columbia to Alaska, encompassing an impressive 16.5 million hectares of land. The reverse of the coin, designed by artist Margaret Best, captures the dramatic meeting point of the ocean, towering mountains, and deep forest. At the center of this landscape stands the Shore Pine, scientifically known as Pinus contorta. The design beautifully highlights the tree's defining characteristics, including its famously crooked trunk and twisted branches that have adapted to the harsh coastal winds. The obverse features the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. Struck by the Royal Canadian Mint in a proof finish, the coin is composed of one troy ounce of 99.99 percent pure silver. The inscriptions on the coin include the face value of 20 Dollars, the country name Canada, and the year 2015, alongside the bilingual designations for the silver content and the forest theme.
