This striking silver piece from 2015 highlights the Hawksbill turtle, a critically endangered marine reptile known for the beautiful, overlapping scales that form its shell. Unlike many other sea creatures, these turtles generally steer clear of the deep ocean, choosing instead to dwell near coral reefs and coastal waters. They are known to undertake long migrations between nesting areas and feeding grounds, and they are occasionally spotted in the waters around New Zealand. On one side of the coin, a Hawksbill turtle is depicted gliding through shallow coastal waters.
