Struck in 90 percent silver at the San Francisco Mint, this 2015 quarter dollar showcases the remarkable artistry of modern United States coinage. The coin is struck with a brilliant proof finish, which highlights the sharp contrast between the frosted design elements and the mirror-like background fields. The reverse of the coin transports observers to the salt marshes of Delaware, depicting a serene natural scene featuring a great blue heron alongside a great egret. This side is inscribed with the words BOMBAY HOOK, DELAWARE, 2015, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The artwork on this side was created by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. On the obverse, the familiar profile of George Washington faces left. This side of the coin bears the classic inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR and the S mint mark, indicating its origin from the San Francisco Mint. The obverse design is a modern rendition of the classic portrait originally modeled by John Flanagan.
