Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 2015 silver quarter represents a fascinating chapter in American expansion. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. Crafted with a brilliant proof finish, it serves as a detailed tribute to the Homestead Act of 1862, a landmark piece of legislation that granted citizens the opportunity to claim 160 acres of western land. This historic act remained in effect for over a century before its eventual repeal in 1976. The obverse side of the coin features the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, originally modeled by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins.
