In 2015, the United States Mint released a striking modern interpretation of classic American iconography with the High Relief American Liberty gold coin. Struck in one troy ounce of 0.9999 fine gold at the West Point Mint, this issue is distinguished by its deep, sculptural relief, which gives the designs an extraordinary three-dimensional depth and presence. The obverse of the coin presents a fresh vision of Lady Liberty, designed by Justin Kunz. She is depicted standing tall, holding a staff topped by the American flag in one hand and a lit torch in the other. This side features the essential inscriptions "Liberty" and "In God We Trust," alongside the date of 2015. On the reverse, artist Paul Balan captures a powerful American bald eagle in mid-flight, its wings fully extended as it clutches an olive branch. The detailed feathers and dynamic sense of movement are enhanced by the high-relief strike. The reverse inscriptions wrap around the design, displaying "United States of America," the traditional motto "E Pluribus Unum," and the coin's weight, purity, and face value, which is marked as "One Hundred Dollars."
