In 2016, the United States Mint introduced a remarkably large silver coin to kick off that year's America the Beautiful series. Struck in five troy ounces of 0.999 fine silver, this massive twenty-five cent piece showcases the natural grandeur of the Shawnee National Forest, a protected wilderness area in Illinois that was first established in August 1933 and officially declared a national forest in September 1939. The reverse side of this impressive coin captures a striking wilderness scene, dominated by the famous geologic formation known as Camel Rock.
