2016 Australia 1 oz Silver Wedge Tailed Eagle BU
2016 Australia 1 oz Silver Wedge Tailed Eagle BU
In 2016, the Perth Mint released the third entry in its celebrated series highlighting one of the Southern Hemisphere's most formidable birds of prey. Struck in one ounce of 0.999 pure silver, this piece features a proof finish that highlights the intricate details of the design. The issue was limited to a maximum production of 50,000 pieces, making it a notable release for enthusiasts of modern world coinage. The reverse of the coin displays a wedge-tailed eagle resting upon a tree branch. This side of the coin carries the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE" along with "2016 1 OZ 999 SILVER" to denote its year, weight, and metal purity. The letter "P" is also visible on this side, representing the Perth Mint. The artwork for this striking avian depiction was created by John Mercanti. On the obverse, the coin displays the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. This side also includes the face value of 1 Dollar, identifying it as a sovereign coin backed by the government of Australia.
