2016 Australia 2 oz Gold Proof Wedge Tailed Eagle PF-70 NGC UC
In 2016, the Perth Mint released a remarkable two-ounce gold proof coin that captures the wild spirit of Australian wildlife. This particular piece is struck from 0.9999 fine gold and has achieved the highest possible grading of Proof 70 Ultra Cameo, indicating its flawless strike and exceptional visual contrast. The reverse of the coin showcases a detailed depiction of a wedge-tailed eagle resting on a tree branch. This design represents the third release in this celebrated series, created through a collaboration between the Perth Mint and designer John Mercanti. The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mint mark is also visible on this side, alongside inscriptions confirming the 2016 year, the two-ounce weight, and the 9999 gold purity. On the obverse, the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which establishes its status as legal tender backed by the Australian government. With a face value of 200 Dollars, this coin is an incredibly rare find, as the total mintage was strictly limited to just 237 pieces.
