In 2016, Canada introduced a striking silver coin featuring one of the sky's most formidable predators. This five dollar issue contains one troy ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine silver and is presented with a reverse proof finish, which creates a beautiful contrast between the frosted fields and the mirror-like design elements. This release represents the very first coin in its specific series, following a previous Birds of Prey collection issued from 2013 to 2015 that celebrated the falcon, bald eagle, red-tailed hawk, and great horned owl. The reverse side of the coin showcases a peregrine falcon captured mid-flight as it descends toward its prey, highlighting the bird's speed and sharp focus. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing nation, CANADA, along with details of the metal content, weight, and purity, written in both English and French as FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR and 9999. The year 2016 is also clearly displayed. On the obverse, the coin bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by artist Susanna Blunt. This side displays the denomination of 5 DOLLARS alongside the Queen's name. This particular specimen has achieved the highest possible grade of Proof 70, representing a perfect strike, and comes from a limited production run of 100,000 coins.
