This 2016 quarter from the Denver Mint celebrates Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, a site of immense significance located in West Virginia. Struck in brilliant uncirculated condition, the coin belongs to the celebrated America the Beautiful series, which honors national parks and historic sites across the nation. The reverse side of the coin showcases the famous armory building, historically known as John Brown's Fort. This structure became the focal point of the dramatic 1859 raid led by abolitionist John Brown, an event that served as a major catalyst leading up to the American Civil War. The design captures the architectural essence of this historic brick fortress, surrounded by inscriptions indicating the location in West Virginia, the year 2016, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the coin features the familiar portrait of George Washington originally created by sculptor John Flanagan. This side carries the essential inscriptions of United States of America, Liberty, In God We Trust, and the face value of Quarter Dollar, alongside the D mint mark signifying its production at the Denver facility.
