2016 Great Britain 1 oz Gold Year of the Monkey BU
2016 Great Britain 1 oz Gold Year of the Monkey BU
The 2016 British gold coin celebrates the Lunar Year of the Monkey with a striking design that showcases a rhesus monkey gracefully swinging through a canopy of tree branches. Created by artist Wuon-Gean Ho, this design represents her third artistic commission for the Royal Mint. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with "YEAR OF THE MONKEY" alongside details of the weight, the 2016 issue date, and the exceptional 999.9 gold purity. On the obverse, the coin displays the fifth official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, surrounded by the face value of 100 pounds. Struck from one troy ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, this sovereign coin is backed by the government of the United Kingdom and is part of the celebrated Shengxiào Collection. The production of this specific issue was strictly limited to a mintage of 8,888 coins, making it a highly focused release within the modern Lunar series.
