The 2016 American Silver Eagle represents a milestone, marking three decades since the inception of this celebrated bullion program. Struck from one ounce of fine silver, this coin carries a face value of one dollar and is backed by the United States Mint. Its presentation is enhanced by a special retro label that features a bald eagle alongside the national flag and a dedicated 30th Anniversary ribbon, commemorating the longevity of the series. On the obverse, the design draws inspiration from the classic 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar created by Adolph A. Weinman. It depicts Lady Liberty draped in the stars and stripes, moving gracefully toward a rising sun over a mountain ridge. The inscriptions include the year 2016 and the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST, keeping a century-old artistic tradition alive. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, showcases a powerful heraldic eagle positioned behind a central shield. In its beak, the eagle grasps a banner, while its talons hold an olive branch on the right and a cluster of arrows on the left. Hovering above the eagle are thirteen small stars, symbolizing the original American colonies.
