2016-W 1/10 oz Gold Mercury Dime SP-69 NGC (ER/FR)
In 2016, the United States Mint marked a major milestone by honoring one of its most celebrated twentieth-century coin designs. This special centennial release recreates the classic 1916 Mercury Dime, struck in 0.1000 troy ounces of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold. Minted at the West Point facility in New York, the coin was produced specifically as a business strike, carefully sized to match the physical diameter and dimensions of the original silver dime issued a century earlier. The obverse features the famous portrait created by Adolph A. Weinman, depicting a youthful Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a symbol traditionally associated with freedom of thought. On the reverse, the design showcases a fasces wrapped with an olive branch, representing both strength and peace. Legible inscriptions on the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the W mint mark, the gold purity indicator of 24K, and the weight designation of 1/10 oz AU.
