2016-W 1/10 oz Gold Mercury Dime SP-70 PCGS
In 2016, the United States Mint celebrated a landmark anniversary by recreating one of its most celebrated twentieth-century coin designs in pure gold. This special release marks the centennial of the original 1916 Winged Liberty Head dime, commonly known to generations of collectors as the Mercury Dime. Struck at the West Point facility in New York, this modern tribute contains one tenth of an ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, translating a historic circulating design into a precious metal masterpiece. The obverse of the coin features the classic portrait of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a powerful symbol of freedom of thought. This side also bears the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST alongside the date 2016. On the reverse, the design showcases a traditional fasces wrapped with an olive branch, representing both readiness and a desire for peace. Originally created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, these detailed motifs have been faithfully preserved on this tenth-ounce gold issue, offering a fascinating bridge between America's coinage past and modern minting technology.
