In 2016, the United States Mint celebrated a major numismatic milestone by reissuing one of its most celebrated twentieth-century coin designs. This special release marks the one hundredth anniversary of the classic 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, rendering the historic artwork in a modern format. Unlike the original silver circulating coins, this centennial tribute is struck in one half ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold. It was produced at the West Point Mint in New York as a business strike. The coin features the celebrated artistry of Adolph A. Weinman. On the obverse, a graceful figure of Lady Liberty strides forward, a timeless symbol of American hope and progress. The reverse displays a powerful eagle, wings partially spread in a classic heraldic pose.
