In 2016, the United States Mint released a special edition of its signature silver dollar to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the American Eagle series. This particular issue stands out due to its distinctive burnished finish, which offers a soft, matte-like appearance quite different from standard bullion or proof releases. Struck at the West Point Mint, the coin contains one troy ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver and is backed as official legal tender by the United States government. The obverse presents the classic Walking Liberty design originally created by Adolph A. Weinman. Lady Liberty is depicted moving gracefully toward a rising sun on the horizon, draped in the American flag. Inscriptions on this side include the year 2016 and the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, a majestic heraldic eagle is positioned beneath a cluster of thirteen small stars. The West Point Mintmark, represented by a small W, is located directly below the eagle. Along with the standard inscriptions denoting the weight and face value, this anniversary edition features a unique lettered edge, adding an extra layer of detail to a modern classic that is projected to have one of the lowest mintages in the history of the series.
