The 2017 edition of the fifty dollar American Gold Eagle showcases a brilliant synergy of historical and modern design, containing exactly one troy ounce of gold. Struck by the United States Mint, this piece brings together two iconic visions of American identity on its obverse and reverse faces. On the front, the design draws inspiration from the famous 1907 Gold Double Eagle created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It features Lady Liberty stepping forward with confidence, illuminated by the radiating beams of a rising sun. The word LIBERTY is inscribed above, and the year 2017 is clearly marked alongside her path. The opposite side of the coin features an original composition by Miley Busiek, depicting a family of bald eagles. A male eagle is shown in mid-flight, clutching an olive branch as he returns to a nest that shelters a female eagle and their hatchlings. This scene is accompanied by the traditional mottos IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside inscriptions denoting the weight and face value of fifty dollars.
