2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle BU
In 2017, the United States Mint expanded its famous bullion selection by introducing palladium to the American Eagle program. This marked the first time the metal was utilized for this series since platinum was added in 1997. Struck in high relief at the Philadelphia facility, this inaugural release had a limited worldwide production of only 15,000 pieces, making it a notable milestone for modern coinage. The obverse features a classic depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design originally created by Adolph Weinman for the famous Mercury Dime. Legible inscriptions on this side include the year 2017, the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST, and the word LIBERTY. For the reverse, Weinman's artistry is showcased once again with an illustration of an eagle perched upon a rock. The reverse design also incorporates the required technical specifications and legal tender details, including the face value of $25, the weight, and the purity. These details are confirmed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1 OZ. PD 0.9995 FINE, representing one troy ounce of 99.95 percent pure palladium.
