2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle MS-70 NGC (Early Releases)
The year 2017 marked a major milestone in United States coinage with the introduction of its very first palladium release. As part of the prestigious American Eagle bullion program, this coin contains one troy ounce of 0.9995 fine palladium. Struck in impressive high relief at the Philadelphia facility, the issue was limited to a worldwide distribution of just 15,000 pieces, making its debut a highly anticipated event for enthusiasts of modern minting. The obverse of the coin showcases a striking depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This design, originally created by Adolph Weinman, is highly reminiscent of the Roman deity Mercury and first gained fame on the 1916 Mercury Dime. The legible inscriptions on this side include the traditional national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," alongside the 2017 year of issue. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted standing firmly upon a rocky perch. This particular illustration has deep historical roots, having first appeared in 1907 on the annual Gold Medal for the American Institute of Architects. Surrounding the majestic bird are inscriptions detailing the coin's technical specifications and legal tender status, including "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "$25," and "1 oz. Pd 0.9995 FINE."
