In 2017, the United States Mint expanded its famous bullion selection by introducing a brand new precious metal to the program. This debut marked the very first time palladium was utilized for an official American coin, representing the initial metal addition to the series since platinum debuted twenty years prior in 1997. Struck in high relief at the Philadelphia facility, this landmark release was limited to a total global distribution of just 15,000 pieces. The imagery on this coin celebrates classic American numismatic art. The front displays a profile of Liberty adorned with a winged Phrygian cap, a representation originally created by Adolph Weinman for the famous Mercury Dime. On the back, an eagle clings to a rocky perch, a powerful image originally fashioned by Weinman for a gold medal awarded by the American Institute of Architects. This modern treasure contains one troy ounce of 0.9995 fine palladium. The reverse side clearly displays the necessary specifications, including the weight, the purity level, and the legal tender value of 25 dollars. Collectors can also spot the traditional national mottoes, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the front and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on the back, alongside the country name, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
