This classic portrait, originally created by James Earle Fraser, is accompanied by the inscription of the word "LIBERTY" and the 2017 year of issue. A small letter "F" is also visible below the date, noting the designer's surname. On the reverse, a massive American bison stands in profile, dominating the design. This depiction is widely believed to be modeled after Black Diamond, a famous buffalo from the early twentieth century.
